How Long Does the EUSR SHEA Telecommunications Course Take?
For initial training, SHEA Telecommunications is a one-day course.
EUSR currently allows initial training to be delivered through either:
A full-day face-to-face classroom course with a paper-based assessment; or
Full-day live remote training through a virtual classroom, followed by an appropriate remote or electronic assessment.
This makes the programme relatively straightforward for both individual workers and employers looking to incorporate training into workforce development programmes.
Is There an Assessment?
Yes.
Each of the seven modules is followed by a multiple-choice assessment set by EUSR.
Candidates must demonstrate the required level of understanding across the programme to achieve their registration.
The purpose is not simply to attend a training day. The assessment provides evidence that the learner has understood the safety, health and environmental principles covered throughout the course.
How Long Is SHEA Telecommunications Registration Valid?
A successful SHEA Telecommunications EUSR registration is valid for three years.
Workers should keep track of their expiry date and ensure that any required renewal training is completed before their registration lapses.
Employers should similarly include training expiry dates within their workforce competency and compliance management processes.
Can SHEA Telecommunications Be Renewed?
Yes.
EUSR provides several renewal routes for people who already hold an appropriate current SHEA registration.
Current options include full-day face-to-face or remote training, alongside certain half-day and e-learning routes.
Importantly, EUSR states that the half-day and e-learning renewal options are not available to individuals who do not already hold a current SHEA registration.
This makes it important not to leave renewal until after an existing registration has expired.
Important 2026 Changes to SHEA and CSCS Cards
Anyone completing SHEA training during 2026 should be aware of an important change to the relationship between SHEA registration and CSCS cards.
EUSR launched its new SHEA 2026 programmes on 3 August 2026.
Registrations made under the new SHEA 2026 programme are printed on an EUSR Utilities card and do not automatically include the CSCS logo.
Existing SHEA 2023/2024 programmes can continue to be delivered until 30 September 2026. From 1 October 2026, training must use the SHEA 2026 programmes.
From 1 October 2026, individuals requiring a CSCS card for construction-site access will need to apply separately for the appropriate EUSR CSCS card for their role, while continuing to hold an in-date SHEA registration.
This is an important distinction.
Holding SHEA Telecommunications demonstrates the required SHEA registration, but workers should also check which additional card, qualification or competency evidence is required for the particular site and role they are undertaking.
